hello! My name is Frank Piscani.

I worked for the Pocono Record (part of the Gannett | USA TODAY Network) as the sports multimedia reporter from February 2021 to October 2022. I primarily covered high school sports, but I also wrote about East Stroudsburg University DII sports and NASCAR at Pocono Raceway.

I believe sports are a foundation of community. A force of profound togetherness, sports are a vehicle for telling stories that matter. Sports stories on the surface are about soccer balls inside goals, baseballs in bleachers and basketballs inside rims. Sports stories are truly, however, about people. Communities. Hard work. Success. Failure. Togetherness. Creating “Others.” Love. Hate. Worship. Conflict. They’re insights into how and why people act the way they do.

That's what I look to write about.

I’ve seen the trope of sports journalists becoming boxed in as only being able to write about sports, but I view myself as the opposite. Sports are my window into writing about everything else.

Photojournalism provides a similar vehicle for storytelling. Photojournalists capture the world as it happens, creating the visuals that contribute the details to stories prose cannot. Whether it be complementing written journalism or telling stories themselves, I believe photographs are an essential part of journalism. Photojournalism brings environments that are inaccessible to the average person into their hands.

Before starting at the Pocono Record, I graduated from American University in Washington, DC, in December 2020 with my bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in graphic design. I am now a Staff Photographer and Videographer for the real estate media company HD Bros in the Washington, DC, area.

Stuff I like.

To help you get a better idea of who I am, I want to share some of my favorite YouTube videos, Instagram accounts and other fun stuff!
